First edition of this rare manual on the use of a recently invented instrument for measuring the distance and distance projection of planets and stars.
It contains 32 exercises given by the author, a professor of mathematics in Kassel (Germany). This edition was printed by the famous engraver and cartographer Gerard Valck (1652-1726), based in Amsterdam. Together with the German engraver Pieter Schenck, the two skillful dealers acquired a large part of the original copperplates of the society of Johannes Janssonius, also an eminent cartographer of his time.
The engraved plate shows calculations for solar and lunar eclipses.
Of this rare edition OCLC locates only one institutional copy in the United States (Adler Planetarium, Chicago).
A very good copy.
