First edition.
Collection of public letters addressed to industrialists, which had been lithographed or printed separately. The volume ends with an Address to Philanthropists. In this visionary work, the author argues that all the peoples of Europe will soon be obliged to join a common industrial system. This interpretation of history in the light of industrial development heralds both Auguste Comte and historical materialism, Saint-Simon’s stroke of genius being to have understood that the importance of the French Revolution was economic even more than political.
Spine faded, but a good copy.
