A luxurious edition printed shortly after the author’s death at the expense of Cosimo III de’ Medici. It is illustrated with an allegorical frontispiece, a portrait of the author by Tempesta and superb vignettes engraved by Lorenzini at the top and bottom of each of the sonnets printed. Francesco Redi, who is best known for his work in entomology, also cultivated fine literature: his poems are “des morceaux d’une grâce achevée” (Hoefer).
