First edition of the Œuvres (the last volume is addressed to Amsterdam and not Paris, a detail not mentioned by Brunet). The fourth volume containing biographical notes of writers with the cartons mentioned by Brunet (Marmontel p.71, Riccoboni p.149, Le Chevalier de Mouhi p. 151), Diderot p.179, and Roi de Prusse p. 179).
After a mundane youth during which Voisenon (1708-1775) became acquainted with Crébillon, Duclos and Favart, he embraced the ecclesiastical state at the urging of his family. He was the author of plays and also wrote novels and tales, some of which were libertine in tone, notably Zulmis and Zelmaïde.
Pages 217-220 of volume III have burn with damage to text; binding slightly rubbed, spine faded.
