Taillemite, Dictionnaire des marins français, p. 259. Missing from all bibliographies or specialist collections (Forbes, Ferguson, O’Reuilly, Cordier, Borba de Moraes, Sabin, John Carter Brown).
First edition.
It contains the account by the sailor Casimir Henricy of the circumnavigation of the Artémise under the direction of Laplace. The beautiful plates, drawn by François-Edmond Pâris, illustrate the Cape of Good Hope, Moka, Muscat, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Tahiti, Peru, Manila, Honolulu and other places. Of particular interest is the beautiful view of Hawaii, unknown to Forbes. The plates also illustrate the official account of the voyage published between 1841 and 1854. Disguised as a scientific voyage, this expedition was primarily a rescue operation to end the ban on celebrating the Catholic faith in Hawaii.
The album is very rare, and is missing from all the major specialist collections.
