First edition.
Rare offprint (Comptes rendus des séances de l’Académie des Sciences, tome CIV) containing the two presentations Marey made to the Académie des Sciences on his research into the mechanism of bird flight. His research was based mainly on the use of his new method, Photochronography, which made it possible to superimpose several views taken of a seagull in flight. Marey determined that 25 images per second would be needed to successfully study the mechanism of flight.
The 9 illustrations in the text confirm his discoveries.
Lower cover missing, otherwise a very good copy.
