Contemporary polished calf, triple gilt filet on covers, interlaced cipher in corners, spine gilt with raised bands, compartments decorated with interlaced cipher, gilt inner border, marbled and gilt edges (top and bottom of spine worn, upper hinge partly split).

First edition. An indispensable work providing a French translation of the geographical vocabulary of the various languages of Europe, Asia, Africa, etc. Olivier, 1278, attributes the cipher ‘ALR’ which adorns the spine and boards of the binding (surmounted by a marquis’s crown, here redacted) to Father Allard le Roy.
