Warda, 171 & 176.

First edition, printed by Christian Friedrich Solbrig in Leipzig for Friedrich Nicolovius. Complete copy with both parts, each with its own individual title page.

The Metaphysik der Sitten is the last systematic presentation of Kantian ethics (after the Grundlegung of 1796, and the Kritik der practischen Vernunft of 1788). It is considered the sum of Kant’s philosophy of law and is used by Kant scholars as a basis for the presentation and interpretation of Kant’s thoughts on law and injustice.

Some foxing.

Provenance: old library mark at foot and on back cover – from the libraries of Robert de Billy & Daniel Appia (with their respective book plates).
