Cohen-de Ricci, 388.

Copy printed on wove paper with the plates in their definitive state (with the letter).

Cohen erroneously indicates that the portrait was engraved by Gaucher (it is indeed signed in the Delvaux plate).

This copy is complete with its  "24 ravissantes figures de Quéverdo, gravées par Dambrun, Delignon, de Launay, Gaucher et Villeroy".

Les Avantures de Telemaque fils d'Ulysse is an adventure novel based on the Odyssey. It was written by Fénelon for the education of the Duke of Burgundy, son of the Dauphin, whose tutor he was. The novel contains a treatise on morality and politics distilled from the discussions between Telemachus and his master Mentor (who, thanks to the success of the novel, has become an antonomasia, his name passing into common parlance).

Although the novel was a great success, it also led to the disgrace of its author, who was seen as painting a picture of the court of Louis XIV.

A fine complete copy in perfect condition.
