Quérard, II, 684.
First edition bound in red morroco for the marquis de Monteynard.
A geometer and tactician, Louis Charles Dupain de Montesson took up the profession of arms at a very young age. Discharged in 1758, he was admitted to the corps of engineers and geographers and quickly distinguished himself through his knowledge of various areas of mathematics. He subsequently became tutor to the Duc de Berri, the future Louis XVI, and taught him how to draw up plans.
The work is decorated with a fine engraved plate illustrating the art of drawing up plans with the angles and perspectives to be respected.
A very fine copy in perfect condition.
Book plate of Dupain de Montesson on the inside back cover.
