Barbier, IV, 784.
First edition of this rare work on hydraulics.
It is attributed to Henri-Albert Bouillet (died in 1707), engineer at the royal marine under Louis XIV. The author indicates that he was inspired by the writings of Dutch engineers for his treatise, in particular for “la solidité des ouvrages qui se font dans la mer, à faire des digues, des écluses, des jetées, à rendre les rivière navigables pour faciliter le commerce” etc.
Copy complete with its 12 engraved plates and the table leaf. The illustrations show locks, formwork, and techniques for placing poles in the water, as well as how to salvage cargo from sunken ships (using a bell).
Still a good copy.
Provenance : de Bourgeauville (signature on title).
