Louis-Charles de Machault, lord of Arnouville, son of Jean-Baptiste, councillor at the Parliament of Paris, and of Madeleine-Catherine de Villemontée, born on 13 July 1667, became councillor at the Grand Conseil on 17 January 1691, maître des requêtes on 1 March 1694 and councillor at the Conseil de commerce; He was appointed Lieutenant General of Police for the city of Paris on 28 January 1718, following d’Argenson; having relinquished this position on 5 January 1720, he was appointed Conseiller d’État the same year, head of the council of the Duchess of Orléans and first President of the Grand Council in 1740.
