A rare publication in Armenian.
The text, printed in red and black, is decorated with a number of woodcut vignettes and two full-page copper engravings illustrating the Last Supper and the Crucifixion (the latter signed on the plate by C. Seipp).
Works printed in Armenian before the first half of the nineteenth century are rare – there were only 3 titles in Novoarmian in the seventeenth century, around 20 appeared in the eighteenth century, then the figure rose to around 320 in the first half of the nineteenth century.
“En 1789, les Mekhitaristes de l’île de Saint-Lazare (Venise) créent leur propre imprimerie, ce qui donne un nouvel élan à leur activité. Une autre branche des Mekhitaristes, s’installant à Trieste en 1775, crée une autre imprimerie. Avant de déménager à Vienne, pendant 35 ans, ils ont publié environ 70 titres de livres (dont 25 en turc pour les Arméniens de langue turque)” (Hisour Art Culture Histoire).
