Brunet, I, 412 : “la plus belle et la plus recherchée” ; Gamba, p. 367 ; Gay & Lemonnier, 471.
The most beautiful édition edition of Ragionamenti. Published in Amsterdam by the Elsevier printing family two almost identical issues are known of this edition: this copy belongs to the first, with the charactersitics described by Brunet.
The Ragionamenti (1536-56) unite some of the most celebrated satirical or licencious works by Pietro Aretino (1492-1556). The dialogues are between a prostitute and various persons and mock society, the court of Rome, the holy sacrements, mariage, etc. The famous work La Puttana errante, published for the first time in Rome in 1530, was writen by the Venetian poet and author Lorenzo Venier.
It a picturesque satire in which a Venetian courtisan sees herself forced to return her favours to 24 clients in one single session….
Rare copy, complet with the often missing second part. A very charming copyin a very finely executed French Dentelle binding.
Small portions of corners missing on p.120/121 touching one or two characters.
