See Nodier, Description raisonnée d’une jolie collection de livres, 544 (copy bound with another piece); Brunet, V, 940.
Extremely rare edition for which Nodier notes: “One cannot speak of small books of this kind without falling into very boring repetitions. This one is no more common than the others”.
Most of the pieces in this collection praise love, fidelity, the flesh and jealousy, sometimes using crude language, for example in the Air vulgaire (p. 94): Dieu vous gard ma mignonne / Celle que je veux aymer / Permettez je vous prie / M’amie, M’amie / que vous puisse baiser”. There is also a poem on wine : the Chanson à la louange du bon vin (p. 55): “Qui boit bon vin il fait bien la besogne, / On voit souvent vieillir un bon yvronge …/ Le blanc et bon toute la matinée / Et le cleret, toute l’aprèsdinée / pourvu qu’il soit frais percé le matin / O le bon vin”.
The title is decorated with a very charming woodcut vignette showing a couple sitting on a bench in a garden.
A very good copy, carefully cleaned at the time of binding.
