See Blackmer, 1733 (edition 1600).

Third and last 16th century edition of this highly popular travel account (first ed. 1595).

Little is known about the author, other than that he was most likely a professional soldier. Having spent some time in Rome and Naples, he travelled to Cyprus, Egypt and Syria and returned to Paris in 1590.

“This work was extraordinarily successful. There were 18 editions in the following twenty years. [Villamont] produced this account of his travels, recording not only his own experiences, but including material from what he had read. He borrowed a great deal from Belon and others. Book I contains an account of his travels from Brittany to Venice; Book II includes the Greek Archipelago and Jerusalem, while Book III describes Syria and Egypt” (Blackmer).

Slightly toned, light worming occasionally touching a letter, last leaf rehinged.
