First edition.
The Abbé Galiani sets out his ideas on the interdependence of agriculture, manufactures and the number of inhabitants, ideas opposed to those of the physiocrats. Galiani’s text, written directly in French, was stylistically revised by his friends Diderot and Grimm. On the verso of the title, there is a long old handwritten note on the publication of this work and the controversy it provoked.
A very fine copy, nicely bound; in addition, the 8 leaves replaced by cancel leaves have been included at the end of the volume.
